Governing Council

Pacific Coast Charter School will be governed by a Governing Council consisting of an equal number of staff and community representatives as defined in our By-laws.  To ensure parental involvement, an effort will be made to have a parent representative from each of the following grade spans:  K-5, 6-8, 9-12.  Student representatives will be either middle school or high school age.

Governing Council meetings will be held 8 times a year and will be open to all interested families, community members, and staff.  The Council will comply with laws relating to public agencies (e.g. the Brown Act), federal laws and regulations, and other state codes.

The Governing Council will make recommendations related to:
  • charter accountability and revision
  • evaluate effectiveness of school programs
  • school policies
  • budget
  • yearly school plan
  • curriculum
  • parent participation/parent education
  • school/community affairs
  • staffing needs
  • outside consultants
  • school calendar
  • Advocate for students and parents
  • formation of ad hoc committees

Besides Governing Council other ways parental involvement include:
  • Inform parents/guardians that they can directly affect the success of their children’s learning
  • Provide parents with techniques and strategies that they may use to improve their children’s academic success and help their children in learning at home
  • Continue consistent and effective two-way communication between the home and school so that parents/guardians may know when and how to help their children.
  • Encourage parents/guardians to serve as volunteers in the schools, attend student performances, and school meetings.
  • Encourage parents/guardians to participate in Governing Council and other activities in which they may undertake governance, advisory, and advocacy roles.
